About the Author
Forrest Carr observed his 20th year in the news business in January 2000. He joined KGUN9-TV, the ABC affiliate in Tucson, Arizona, as news director in September of 1997. During his tenure KGUN9 has made waves locally and nationally with its innovations in viewer service and community-responsive journalism. KGUN9 solicited viewer input for a statement of principles, the only television station in the United States ever to have done that, and it appointed one of only three viewer ombudsmen in the country. Carr began his career as a radio reporter but quickly switched to television, serving at various times as a copy writer, reporter, newscast producer, managing editor, and assistant news director in the Memphis, San Antonio and Tampa markets before going to Tucson as news director. Carr has contributed to numerous scholarly and trade publications, and has won or shared credit in four dozen professional awards, including a regional Emmy for investigative reporting. He is a graduate of the University of Memphis.

Dr. Suzanne Huffman is Associate Professor of Journalism and Broadcast Journalism Sequence Head At Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. Her B.A. is from Texas Christian University. She earned her M.A. at the University of Iowa, and her Ph.D. at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Huffman has reported, anchored, and produced news at commercial television stations in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Santa Maria, California, and Tampa, Florida. She taught at three other universities before joining the TCU faculty, and her former students occupy newsroom positions at stations throughout the South and Southwest. Her research centers on the practice of broadcast journalism. It includes television station and newsroom workplace issues, such as the current proliferation of live reporting, the use of mission statements, coverage of women's sports, the history of broadcast journalism in Texas, and broadcast news writing practices and style. Her research has been presented at both regional and national symposia and has been published in numerous scholarly journals.

Dr. C. A. Tuggle began teaching on the university level in 1994 after a 16-year broadcasting career in local television news and media relations. He spent the majority of his career at WFLA-TV, the NBC affiliate in Tampa. He has held numerous newsroom positions, but spent the bulk of his career reporting and producing. He covered both news and sports, including six Super Bowls. Tuggle earned his undergraduate and masters degrees from the University of Florida in Gainesville, and his Ph.D. at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He is currently teaching electronic communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research has appeared in nearly a dozen scholarly journals and trade publications, and centers on television news practices and procedures. He regularly conducts writing workshops for local stations, professional and academic groups, and high school journalists. He has overseen student newscasts at three universities and helped develop more than 50 interns during his professional career.

The first time I heard Kerry Kirkwood teach I realized he was a man whom, God had entrusted with transforming truth. I begged him to get this into print for the benefit of families and those in market place ministries. If I had another 100 years to live this book would remain in my library. This will be a book that you read and reread, it will be a book you give to family and friends. You will find yourself going back to it for reference. It is a line upon line book. I think we are living in a day when we have a tendency to fix single meaning to truths that we have heard. In doing this we shut our self out from future revelation. This is one of the most timely books I have ever had in my hand, it is a book written by a man of God whose time has come. Kerry Kirkwood is the founding pastor of Trinity Fellowship in Tyler, Texas, founded in 1987. He currently serves as senior pastor and as the network director of Antioch Oasis International. Kirkwood proposes that there are various aspects of blessing which focus on a lifestyle that goes beyond materialism, changing the heart, to become a prophetic declaration, creative and restorative. Kerry uses Biblical and contemporary stories to illustrate how God brings things back into His divine order. The power of blessing restores hope, gives back dreams, and redirects faith to see unanswerable prayer answered.

The book is made up of four parts designed to help the reader understand the revelation of blessing, the inclusion for blessing, the activation of blessing and the manifestation of blessing. The chapters are filled with practical applications which talk of how when we apply truth we are set free to see things from God's perspective.

I was moved by the affirmations expressed in the prayers included in each chapter. They are excellent models for future personal prayers. The scriptures included throughout the book have a direct correlation to life principles, providing guidelines for living and for transforming truth into reshaping our lives.

Are you desiring to live a life of knowing you are being blessed? Although there are many, many books on the subject of God's blessing, this book is one that touches deeply the heart of the believer if her or she really want to know the Truths of blessing others and being blessed.
I will for this book give to you the titles of the four parts of this book and they are Revelation of Blessing, Inclusion of Blessing, Activitation of Blessing, and Manifestation of Blessing.
This is a book to read and re-read and to keep on the shelf available as a reference. It is a great teaching book for small groups. A question...How do you feel or think when you are blessed and it affects your life?

We are to be blessed and bless others as well. True blessing spoken over someone or something is describing the way God sees them. When we speak blessings over our children, we are saying what their life should be, not what it is now. If we want a blessing, we have to develop a lifestyle of blessing others.

We all know that learning is a never ending process. The young children face the major problem in learning the new things, specially mathematics and physics. I am saying this because i give free lectures to the needy students in the evening everyday. This book has given some really very good ideas on the study plans. Nice reference book on the final battle of World War 2

Why go back and re-read and review a book that was published in 1947? Because it was a very important book back then, and has been used as the template for how to write military history books every since. Not only that, but it has spawned numerous derivative books - by which I mean books that relied on the information contained within it to create other books. This book was published by the U.S. Army and it described the battle for Okinawa against the Japanese in World War 2.

It is a very linear book and relatively dry, in that it described the roughly 90 days of the battles for the island in relatively meticulous detail, from the preparations for its invasion, thought the initial stages, and on to the end of organized combat on the island in the sequence in which it happened. It is dry because it basically mentions which unit fought where, and gives a smidgeon of statistics on the number of American casualties and some statistics about ammunition expenditure rate and the like. On the other hand, it was notable for inserting, here and there, specific combat examples by citing individual soldiers and their activities. This is understood when you are speaking of the exploits of soldiers who later received major commendations (like the Medal of Honor), but this book also includes a few other anecdotes and stories of people who were not necessarily decorated for their efforts.

Notably absent is much reference to the Japanese except for some information on the units that fought there, but almost nothing from the Japanese side. This is not particularly surprising as at the time that this book was published, there was very little information given out by the few Japanese who survived the fighting - the sense of shame that they felt for surviving was too much still to overcome; as well as the fact that the vast majority of Japanese who fought on the island, died as a result of the campaign. Of over 160,000 Japanese soldiers, less than 10,000 survived it.

So, why should this book be read now? Well, as I said, this book became the model for how the U.S. Army wrote its official histories of the second world war. It is notable not only because it documents which unit fought where in substantial detail, but also because this book (and the entire series of official Army histories) do not attempt to whitewash the faults and failures of the U.S. Army. This is not a sanitized version of official history that glorifies that U.S. Army - if talks of the logistical problems and the mistakes made by the high level commanders also. It is sanitized in the sense that it describes the fighting that was going on in a very high level and does not really get into the gore and savagery that was present at the lower levels. There are some hints of this as when an anecdote is told of how a specific Sergeant crept up to a pair of Japanese soldiers and shoots them in the head without giving them any opportunity to surrender, or when a town is described as having the: stench of the dead in the air. But that's it.

A second reason why this book is important is that it became the basis of many other books who relied on the information it contained to flavor its accounts. Many first person accounts published many years later, relied on the information contained in the book to refresh their memories. Also, several recent novels have been published which rely very heavily on this book for the framework of their stories - and even recounting some of the same anecdotes that are told in this book.

So, how should one view this book? I view it as a good reference book to tell me what took place on that island during that campaign and as a good outline of what happened. If I was interested in developing more information about specifics, I would use this book as a guideline and then consult the copious references and notes given to guide my research. Another way to use the book would be to fact check some of the more recent books and articles that claim to explain some aspect of the battle or another. I ended up giving this book a four star rating because of its usefulness, rather than its readability. This is not the kind of book that I can see many people picking up for a leisurely read at the beach! But it is a very useful book nonetheless.

The "Green Books" still right on.

This is one of the Army's "Green Book" series. All of them are very well written but they are geared for the military historian. This is a reprinted copy and dose not contain all of the maps of the the original,which was disappointing.
