A softer side of Nikki

I loved this book. This book contains a poem for every stage, every feeling that love encompasses. I enjoy the hard-edged angry Nikki, but I also appreciate this softer, warmer side of her. I think the fire and passion are still there, just packaged more softly. One of my favorites is "I Wrote a Good Omelet." If you've ever loved anyone or hope to someday, you should appreciate this one.

Hide "Love Poems" behind all those other scholarly, trendy, "book club-y" books - Hide it like you hide your new Victoria's Secret from you old lover - only to surprise him later. And when the time is right, do so. "Love Poems" adds a wonderful twist. It is real, seductive, poignant, and everything love is but you're afraid to stay out. loud. I LOVE IT & so does my BELOVED.

Taking your DV movies to the next level

I'm a person who has directed / produced a number of short films, all shot on DV. I own a lot of books on the subject. I can easily say that this guide is my favorite one! It simultaneously confirmed to me that you can make pro-quality imagery and effects, and it flipped my world upside down on how easily it can be done.

The guide illustrates to you how to make your DV or HD content look professional. More that that: it shows you how to set yourself up for success so that you can later incorporate visual effects.

The guide explains in plain English what a lot of complex terms are, and why you should care. It shows you how to shoot miniatures, how to edit FX footage into your live-action plates, and how to color correct your stuff. Actually, the author gives you some useful tools for doing the color correcting! (In the form of After Effects plugins)

This book isn't going to teach you After Effects or any other program. (But he lists books that will). If you are a filmmaker already familiar with these tools, then the guide will help you take the next step in polishing your content. It also gives you a simple step-by-step process for how to build your production pipleline. This pipeline might be the single best part of the book!

One other cool aspect of this book is that nearly every page has tips on how to save yourself time, or money, or both. Little things like the Google Maps trick. Or how to make convincing gun-fire. Or how to save your movie in a single format to be transformed later into any format: DVD, iPod, online streaming, etc.

Ultimately, I have found this book to be one of my "core" go-to books for making movies. It's goal is not to teach you tricks per say, but rather to empower you to make a great film using easily-accessible tools and modest budgets. It isn't just theory... it's practical guidelines that you can apply to your next DV or HD movie.

A fun book for those who want to make movies - and those who simply enjoy moviemaking

I don't plan on making any low-budget action epics, but this book is a delight anyway. Stu Maschwitz knows his business, writes well and has a highly developed sense of humor. As a bonus, he also provides a list of most of the best action movies made over the past several decades.

Be forwarned: if you intend to make full use of the numerous examples in the book and on the accompanying DVD, you will need a copy of Adobe After Effects.

Even though I don't intend to be making any action movies, I really appreciated Maschwitz's insights into how to make such movies on low budgets. There's lots of insights into movie making in general in this book and the knowledge can't help but make you a better videographer even if all you shoot are your kids and family picnics.

His dissection of classic action sequences from films like "La Femme Nikita" are more than worth the price of the book.

For the serious hobby videographer, the chapters on color and color correction are also very worthwhile.

Overall, an excellent book for anyone interested in video in general, making low-budget action movies or simply gaining a greater appreciation of what goes into making a good action movie. A lot of fun between two covers.

Both inspirational and resourceful

Stu's writing style is both infectious and inspirational. This sits alongside Robert Rodriguez's Rebel without a Crew as a mainstay for any Rebel filmmaker. The book teaches, no preaches, for the first time (aside from Rodriguez) that its okay to think big visually in your storytelling, that you can have action and special effects. I wouldn't want to count the number of books written on digital filmmaking that tell you to steer clear and stick to talking head three location features - boring.

If you've gone down the DV feature path before or if you're just starting out, Stu has tip and tricks for it all. From prep and pre-prod, to shooting, and post. Oh, the resources on the DVD are worth the price of the book alone.

Digital production is all about workflow and Stu has mastered this arena with great adeptness. He is himself a digital pioneer and never seems content (which is a good thing) to accept or constrain his creative vision due to budget or other reasons. He is a true Ninja - and for that we salute you.

Have waited a long time for a book like this. It takes pride in my library - though it has spent more time off the shelf than one since its arrival.

Sensual, intimate and incredible! Making love is an art!

This book is overlooked by so many who desire to make love to their partners as though they were the only person in the world. The positions offered are incredible and although it may be uncomfortable to try some of them the ecstasy is well worth any discomfort or embarrassment. Try them! You will never experience total release from the world like lying in your lover's arm in one of these incredible positions!

Culture, history, and practice

This is an outstanding new translation of the Indian classic, dating from the fourth century BC. It is widely misunderstood in the west, largely by people who never read it, but also by people who only read Burton's unfortunate Victorian translation. Well over 500 pages, this may seem intimidating - I promise you, it's worth your effort.

This includes Vatsyayana's complete text, not just the extracts that Burton chose. Danielou interleaves it with not one, but two different commentaries, one traditional and one modern. These add insight, not just to the Vatsyayana text itself, but also to how later ages of India view this classic.

The Kama Sutra describes the culture in which it arose. At least for the upper classes, it's a remarkable image. Although male-dominated, women had surprising autonomy. Many services - jewelers, perfumers, and the like - create the objects and gifts of a rich society. Even prostitutes have a more or less respectable place in that world - more like geishas, entertainers with wide repertoires, not just vessels for sexual release.

This book is surprisingly clinical in its outlook. Vatsyayana describes a range of sexual practices. Some, he notes, are not widely considered proper - but all things have their time and place, if that's what the practitioners want. Describing a practice does not imply approval of it; in that vein, he mentions seductions and even capture of a woman by force. Prostitutes, too, have a code of behavior. Although they may develop feelings for a customer, their work is their business and their livelihood. This justifies, even demands behavior that would not be proper for a partner of another kind.

The largest part of the book is more mundane. It sets out a plan for being a happy, healthy member of society: the skills needed, grooming, social behaviors, and lots more. Despite repressive eras that followed (down to our own), the appeal of this document persists. Today's readers, nearly 2500 years later, can still learn from it, about that ancient time but also about our own.

No pictures, but loads of great advice

Interesting stuff written in here, but sadly this version lacks all of the wonderful pictures that make the Kama Sutra so intriguing and exciting in the first place. If you absolutely need to know how to keep a harem of wives in line, though, there is no better reference guide available anywhere else.

ProQuest and Bernan made a splash in 2012 when they took over the government's long-running publication of Statistical Abstract. The Statistical Abstract of the United States, published since 1878, is the best-known statistical reference publication in the country. As a comprehensive collection of statistics on the social, political, and economic conditions of the United States, it is a snapshot of America and its people. In the spring of 2011, the Census Bureau announced that the edition published that year would be the last one produced at government expense. Beginning in 2012, ProQuest took on responsibility for updating and releasing this publication, the most used statistical reference tool in U.S. libraries.

The editors at ProQuest have endeavored to continue the tradition established by the Census Bureau Statistical Compendia Branch. Like its predecessors, the ProQuest Statistical Abstract of the United States is designed to serve as a convenient volume for statistical reference and as a guide to other statistical publications and sources. The latter function is served by the introductory text to each section, the source note appearing below each table, and Appendix I, which is comprised of the Guide to Sources of Statistics, the Guide to State Statistical Abstracts, and the Guide to Foreign Statistical Abstracts.

This volume includes a selection of data from many statistical sources, both government and private. Publications cited as sources usually contain additional statistical detail and more comprehensive discussions of definitions and concepts. Data not available in publications issued by the contributing
agency, but obtained from the Internet or unpublished records are identified in the source notes. More information on the subjects covered in the tables may generally be obtained from the source.

Except as indicated, figures are for the United States as presently constituted. Although emphasis in the ProQuest Statistical Abstract is primarily given to national data, many tables present data for regions and individual states and a smaller number for metropolitan areas and cities. "Appendix II, Metropolitan and Micropolitan Statistical Areas: Concepts, Components, and Population," presents explanatory text, a complete current listing, and population data for metropolitan and micropolitan areas defined as of February 2013. Statistics for the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and for Island Areas of the United States are included in many state tables and are supplemented by information in Section 29.

Statistics in this edition are generally for the most recent year or period available, as of early September
2015. Each year over 1,400 tables are reviewed and













evaluated, new tables of current interest are added, continuing series are updated, and less timely data are condensed or eliminated. Text notes and appendices are revised as appropriate.

Changes in this edition—This year ProQuest introduces 39 new tables, presenting new material on a variety of topics, including charter schools; women's earnings as a percent of men's earnings by
occupation; terrorism related deaths, injuries, and kidnappings of private U.S. citizens; child immunization by State; and health care spending by medical condition. For a complete list of new tables, see "New Tables," p. xi.

Additionally, within the Health and Nutrition section, tables presenting data on health measures have been arranged into two separate subsections - health measures and health measures for children.

Online edition—ProQuest Statistical Abstract is also available in an online edition. This dynamic edition features table-specific capabilities for narrowing results by source, data date, subject, and type of data breakdown. Importantly, the online edition is updated with new statistical content on a monthly basis, enabling users to regularly access new and revised data. The online product functions as a repository for additional back year's data that cannot fit into the print publication. Users will find spreadsheets that correspond to each table in the book. In many cases, these spreadsheets present expanded coverage of the data shown in print. It is available as a stand-alone product or a fully integrated component of ProQuest Statistical Insight.

Limitations of the data—The contents of this volume were taken from many sources. All data from censuses, surveys, and administrative records are subject to error arising from a number of factors including the following: sampling variability (for statistics based on samples), reporting errors in the data for individual units, incomplete coverage, nonresponse, and imputation and processing errors (see also Appendix III). ProQuest cannot accept responsibility for the accuracy or limitations of the data presented here. However, selection of the material and its proper presentation is the responsibility of ProQuest.

There is no more comprehensive source of data about America, Americans, business & the economy, health, education, transportation, states, cities, and almost anything else you could think to ask about. About the Author
Winston Graham (1908-2003) is the author of more than 40 novels, and is best known for the highly successful Poldark series. His novels have been translated into 17 languages and six have been filmed, the most notable being Marnie, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, and in 1983 was awarded the OBE.

Moments of introspection

In this sixth book of the Poldark Saga, the four swans are four women whose lives touch Ross: Demelza, Elizabeth, Caroline, and Morwenna. For a man that often seems to be rather ignorant of love beyond his past pining for Elizabeth, Ross has a remarkable romantic streak for the lives and relationships of others! This story perhaps falls more in the "romance" genre than the others as numerous men reconcile themselves to loves they cannot have--Demelza's brothers Sam and Drake and the besotted Hugh Armitage, yearning for the wife of the man that saved his life.

The author includes many moments of introspection and deep thoughts in this novel. From Hugh: "By giving love you do not diminish it. Love only adds to itself, it never destroys. Tenderness is not like money; the more you give to one the more you have for others." From Ross: "No man wants his wife to be a woman that other men don't desire....But every man wants his wife to be a woman that other men don't get."

Intertwined in the lives of the characters (Ross, Demelza, George, Elizabeth, Drake, Sam, Dwight, Caroline, Morwenna, Osborne) is the ongoing Napoleonic war and civil unrest in England among the poor. The feud/competition between Ross and George continues and compels both men to take actions to try to best the other.

Not As Satisfying

This book was not as satisfying to me as the first books in the series. Some of Demelza's actions seem very out of character for her and therefore not believable. I was also not very interested in the politics of the time and a lot of the book was devoted to politics. I am certainly getting an education in Cornish mining techniques!

Great series

This is a saga that you never want to end . I love the Outlander book series and I love this series for how it's different from that . Ross and Demelza are wonderful characters that make bad mistakes but still are in love with other . The background characters are interesting also
